GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Full time contractor support personnel needed for this discipline. This tasking is to assist Norfolk Naval Shipyard Engineering and Planning Department Code 263 Surface Ships Aux / Hydraulics with Planning Yard duties. The misson of the branch is to furnish engineering services for U.S. Navy L-Deck Amphibious (LHA and LHD) LHD-6 FY18 DPMA, LHD-7 FY18 PMA and Aircraft Carrier (CVN) CVN 69 FY17 PIA and CVN77 FY18 DPAI.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

  • Developing drawings that completely and efficiently accomplish the intent of the applicable Ship Alteration
  • Request (SAR)/Ship Change Document (SCD)
  • Conduct engineering investigations, including ship checking and system troubleshooting, in order to obtain data for use in develop drawings, engineering reports and test procedures
  • Develop drawings that include required Weight and Moment requirements
  • Perform and review standard engineering calculations for strength, stress, shock, weight.
  • Develop drawings that adequately address shock requirements
  • Develop drawings that include required safety and/or environmental considerations
  • Develop drawings that accurately depict arrangement of equipment
  • Interface between different technical disciplines to ensure complete integration of all systems
  • Develop drawings that adequately identify system and component test requirements
  • Responsible for all engineering calculations associated with mechanical drawings

 

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • The mission of this branch is to furnish Technical Services for U.S. Navy CVN CLASS, L-Deck Amphibious (LHA and LHD).

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must have a working knowledge of Elevators, Aircraft, Weapons and Personnel, Catapults (Mechanical and Hydraulics Only), Jet Blast Deflectors/Monorails/Hoists, Steering Gear Anchor Windlasses, Hydraulics for RIB Davits, Arresting Gear and Barricade, B&A Crane, Rudders, Weapons Handling (Davits, Hoists, Skip Boxes), Heads Up Display Hydraulics, Hydraulic Piping, RAS & FAS Winches, Vertical Package Conveyors, Hangar Division and Deck Edge Doors, RAST Underwater Log Rodmeter Hoisting Mechanism, Counter-Weighted Ballistic Hatches, Mooring and Warping Capstans.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet that eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • CARRYING and LIFTING. Ability to transport and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Employee may access remote areas of multi-level vessels
  • Must comply with Company’s Driver Safety Policy if assigned to operate company and/or rental vehicles
