GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

  • Design and engineer electrical/electronic components for installation on boats.
  • Provide waterfront support, field engineering and detailed design and engineering support for small boats.
  • Understand engineering/design specifications and engineering principles and methods, to perform engineering analysis and resolve engineering problems of moderate complexity.
  • Working knowledge of engineering analysis and design applications programs is required.
  • Provide engineering calculation, technical solutions and professional guidance for electrical, IC, Command, Control, Communication and Computer systems.
  • Responsible for research, development, regulation adherence, material conditions surveying and industrial oversight.
  • Maintain superior customer relations and communications.
  • Strive to maintain quality products, within schedule and cost.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Prepare layouts and specifications; review design proposals and drawings; and assure that specifications meet performance requirements.
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise to the development of technical specifications, requisition and bid documents, inspection and testing requirements, etc.
  • Apply specialized engineering knowledge and training to analyze and resolve design and production issues.
  • Translate design to drawing of 440VAC/120VAC, 24VDC and 12VDC power distribution systems on small to medium size craft.
  • Design systems utilizing IEEE-45, Coast Guard and military regulations for selections of components, cabling, hardware, etc. and working knowledge of current installation practices.
  • Perform voltage drop calculations, load analysis and any additional calculations used in the selection of and proving electrical system designs.
  • Effectively use Computer Aided Design principles, both 2-D and 3-D and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in an open communicative environment, and can adapt to changing design requirements rapidly.
  • Attend meetings and provide professional recommendations as requested.
  • Professionally interface with customers and vendors.
  • Prepare engineering sketches to help designers and drafters to complete engineering drawings.
  • Check and review documents produced by other members of the department for completion and accuracy.
  • Develop and apply advance methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems.
  • Develop and perform formal technical reports summarizing analyses, calculations and engineering studies.
  • Available for CONUS and OCONUS travel.

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in electrical and electronic equipment, components, and systems arrangements and layouts, including cable routing and preparation of electrical functional block diagram; single line diagram; logic diagram; and elementary, schematic, interconnection diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of military and commercial standards or previous design experience in a defense or military support environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of shipboard systems in general.
  • Must have AutoCAD experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially EXCEL, essential.
  • Extensive attention to detail, ability to multi-task and the drive to take ownership in one’s work.
  • Work independently (with minimal supervision) or on project teams.

  • PREFERRED:
  • Significant small boat electronics integration experience.
  • Security Clearance.
  • Passport.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires US citizenship and will be subject to a security investigation, must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain, and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • CARRYING and LIFTING. Ability to transport and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Employee may access remote areas of multi-level vessels
  • Must comply with Company’s Driver Safety Policy if assigned to operate company and/or rental vehicles
