The HR Generalist located in Indianapolis, operates with limited supervision, and is responsible for the successful management of all personnel practices, policies and procedures as required for designated site. Overall responsibilities include, but are not limited to employee relations, legal compliance, recruitment, policy interpretation and administration, training, compensation, and other responsibilities as necessary to ensure maximum effectiveness of the organization, which include:

  • Ensure positive employee relations by overseeing the Human Resources function within the Business Unit
  • Collaborate with the recruitment and selection process
  • Ensure all corporate reporting requirements are met in a timely fashion
  • Responsible for performance management, including the annual review processes
  • Participate and contribute in interdepartmental and intercompany collaboration meetings and projects
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local legislative requirements
  • Work collaboratively with management to disseminate information, obtain support, follow-up on pending issues and promote a positive working environment
  • Design and execute training and development initiatives
  • Partners with the operational teams on continuous improvements
  • Acts a contributing member of the senior leadership team
  • Directs and manages site HR team, developing direct reports and ensuring consistency in practices
  • Represents organization in employment related hearings and investigations
  • Communicates with operational management and employees regarding policies, procedures, etc. and provides advisory communication in resolution of problems
  • Provides updates to management regarding HR issues, concerns, suggestions, regarding employee relations matters
  • Contributes to establishing the culture of the operation while ensuring consistency across the company
  • Works with peers on HR team to develop and implement continuous improvements to HR processes and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of HR generalist experience in management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience
  • PHR or SPHR certification desired
  • Must have an in depth knowledge of overall HR administration
  • Capable of interpreting federal, state, and local labor and employment laws, and regulations, and must be able effectively apply them
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills in interacting effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience working with employees and employee groups on matters concerning personnel issues
  • Ability to prioritize effectively with multiple clients and projects, tight deadlines and to take actions with little direction
  • Ability to verbally communicate in order to effectively coach and lead others  
  • Ability to coordinate multiple and changing priorities
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills are mandatory
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and other business and HR based applications
  • Must be an effective team player, but also have the capability of functioning as an individual contributor
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence others and effectively problem solve
  • Demonstrated effective listening skills and the ability to work with diverse personalities, cultures and styles
