GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

CDI Government Services is currently recruiting an Electrical/Cabling Engineer in Norfolk, VA for the IWS 8.0 program. 

  • Main responsibility of this engineering position is to develop the Cable Impact Statement and Cable Run Sheets (CRSs) that are part of the TDP
  • Ultimately responsible for ensuring equipment will be cabled correctly to allow proper communications with other equipment and systems aboard the ships
  • Requires an understanding of Aegis specifications as well as the General Specification for Overhaul (GSO)
  • Reports to the Senior Design Engineer / Integrator

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Based on Aegis specifications and the GSO, determine the correct cable type that must be used to support equipment being installed
  • Identify the proper connectors and back shells that must be used
  • Provide how cables must be pinned internally
  • Develop and provide the Cable Impact Statement and Cable Run Sheets as part of the TDP
  • Support the development of the Cable Block Diagram in the TDP by providing all required information to the integrator
  • Assign cable numbers to every cable and Maintain Configuration Management of the cables
  • Provide options and alternatives for cabling when required
  • Provide Power Sourcing requirements s part of the TDP
  • Develop Power Point presentations as required
  • Lead or participate in ship checks to accomplish cabling/electrical surveys to support TDP development
  • Participate in meetings and phone conferences when required by the government sponsor
  • Assist in the resolution of cabling issues occurring on the waterfront during equipment installations

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4 - 10 years of relevant experience and a minimum of BA/BS degree is required in engineering.  A Professional Engineer’s license may substitute for 2 years of experience. OR 14 years of Professional / Military experience relevant to Navy Surface Ship Combat Systems.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Proficient with Microsoft products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must have a current Secret clearance and may be subject to a security investigation to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • CARRYING and LIFTING. Ability to transport and lift objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Must comply with Company’s Driver Safety Policy if assigned to operate company and/or rental vehicles
