Job Designation

The Chief Inspector ensures compliance with all regulatory and internal procedures regarding the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Repair Stations quality system.  Contribute to the smooth operation of this station while meeting or exceeding customers’ turn-time and technical requirements. This position is key to an expanding MRO operation that is made up of 50 Technicians and will double in size both from a revenue and technical pool perspective in the next 12-18 months through expansion of product lines.  This position requires prior experience and knowledge of expanding repair station capabilities within the regulatory environment as this is critical to our success.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Maintains compliance with procedures for the receipt, inspection, and storage of parts used in the overhaul and repair of components handled in the repair station.
  • Promotes aviation safety by ensuring airworthy and quality aircraft maintenance and serves as liaison between FAA and Repair Station.
  • Develops and maintains approved FAA accepted Repair Station/Quality Control Manual (RSM/QCM) and Training Manual
  • Assures all FAA, other federal regulations, and state and local laws are adhered to, as applicable
  • Host regulatory and customer quality audits, including the preparation for the audits and all follow up items to include corrective action development and implementation post audit completion
  • Develops and administers the company’s quality systems.
  • Develops plans for continuous improvement of quality
  • Administers Vendor Audit Programs
  • Ensures Customer Technical Data, state and federal regulatory guidance and repair station policies and procedures are maintained in current status and made available to all repair station personnel and others, as required
  • Serves as Quality Management System, management representative who has the authority to:
    • Ensure that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented, and maintained
    • Reports on the performance of the quality management system to senior management for review of its effectiveness and as a basis for improvement of the quality system.
    • Responsible for the Corrective Action Program, designed to detect a nonconformance or undesirable condition, correct it and prevent its recurrence.
    • Responsible for approval, addition and/or deletion of Services and material supplier vendors. May delegate to Materials Manager but retains responsibility.
    • Controls Inspector/Production/Training Stamp program and maintains the Repair Station rosters
    • Determines criteria used for Repairman eligibility, such as testing, performance evaluations etc.
  • Recommends, as required, individuals for Repairman’s Certificate.
  • Maintains Summaries of Employment for all management, inspection and certificated personnel
  • Monitors performance and attendance of Quality Assurance and Quality Control personnel.
  • Ensures that employee assigned to perform each task have documented training to meet all Repair Station, Customer, Federal, State and Local training requirements.
  • Serve as final authority of returned aircraft components to service and other processes authorized on the Repair Station’s Op Spec.
  • Ensures Corrective/Preventive Actions relating to his/her assigned processes and procedure, are initiated and/or completed in a timely manner as required by the Quality Management System.

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred – technical field desirable

Years Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience

Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years working knowledge of FAA & AS9100 regulatory requirements and orginal equipment manufacturing
  • Minimum 3 years experience with government aviation authorities
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing quality personnel and complex activities
  • Minimum 3 years inspection, document control and calibration systems experience
  • Must have A&P License and experience with avionics, fire extinguisher, oxygen, and restraint product line required
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant License
  • Prior experience as a Chief Inspector
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and or CQE preferred
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools and common repair practices
  • Expert level root cause investigation and analysis
  • Familiarity with compliance to engineering technical data for aircraft components
  • Experience in AS9100 with working knowledge of internal auditing
  • The individual must be highly responsive to internal and external customer requirements with a high attention to detail
  • Must have strong technical writing skills and a strong work ethic with demonstrated leadership, business judgment, innovation, teaming skills, and communication skills

  • An in-depth understanding of the operation and use of all production and test equipment within assigned production cell
  • Well-versed in current safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to clearly communicate with all internal and external customers in English to include the ability to read and interpret company documents, such as, safety rules, operating / manufacturing instructions, policies and procedures
  • Audit performance of station (internal and external)
