Project Engineer - Mechanical

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and participates in the execution of the Quality Operating System (QOS), with respect to the Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) as determined for each project.
  • Develops station level concepts and philosophies.
  • Create Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Develops Time Cycle Diagrams (TCD) 
  • Assists in the development of the manufacturing process, insuring the mechanical system and its control system are integrated efficiently.
  • Reviews designs for compliance with customer specifications (corporate and plant), and departmental objectives.
  • Enforces the usage of existing company standards (proven, out of the drawer sub-assemblies) 
  • Organizes and actively participates in the project design review meetings;.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes and drawing releases.
  • Participates, where applicable with manufacturing floor support. Assists in constructing a detailed engineering schedule from the macro schedule supplied by the Program Manager. 
  • Participates in the decision to engineer the job with internal or external engineering resources.
  • Actively monitors Budget and Schedule and takes action promptly to deliver the system on time and under budget.
  • Write and submit to Project Management "deviations" to the customer specifications as required.
  • Monitors labor expenditures and writes Engineering Changes (EC¿s) to account for unanticipated costs overruns or customer driven changes.
  • Maintains the "Project Book" for documentation of Customer requests, meeting minutes, general correspondences, faxes sent and received, deviations, EC¿s, and all other pertinent information.
  • Directly supervises the support personnel assigned throughout all phases of the project. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising their performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Recommends project personnel to specific phases or project tasks such as conceptual development, obtaining customer approval, material purchases, and were applicable layout, detailing and check.
  • Monitors, coordinates and evaluates the efforts, progress and quality of external engineering resources.
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluating the external supplier for compliance to applicable quality standards and program schedules and is actively part of the cross-functional buyoff team.
  • Travel will be required.  Extended stays are ordinarily not required but are possible.  Possession of a valid U.S. passport maybe required. 

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Ability to develop a complete working set of mechanical drawings
  • Ability to size all necessary mechanical components.
  • Ability to prepare major design concepts of complex mechanisms.
  • Working knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and CAD.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret customer specifications, electrical controls schematics, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and customers.
  • Working knowledge of DOS, Windows, Windows applications (Excel, Word, Access, Project etc.), CAD
