Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

JUPITER, Florida, United States

  • Perform and support mechanical design activities for critical rocket and space propulsion system components and assemblies from concept through final detailed design under limited direction.
  • Responsible for the development of design concepts, 3D models and supports the development of detailed drawings for the manufacture of parts.
  • Activity requires key interactions with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups. Individual must be able to plan and execute design tasks with minimal to no supervision and work effectively within an integrated product team (IPT) environment.
  • Conduct trade studies, develop schedules, test plans, component specifications and procedures as required.
  • Support the procurement of development hardware and the establishment of manufacturing processes. Interface with suppliers and assures that design intent and requirements are met.
  • Assist in the identification and support of risk reduction and environmental test requirements.  This may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing component and system level qualification test.  Develop test plans and reviews.
  • Generate Design Substantiation Documentation (DSM technical publication)to support technical meetings and reviews of engineering designs (CoDR, PDR, CDR) and present information to internal and external customers.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering. Master's Degree preferred.

  • 8-10 years prior Aerospace/Aeronautical/Space Propulsion design or development experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a timely fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work in a team environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and related specifications.
  • Understanding of appropriate codes, regulations and specifications, as well as customer requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of NX CAD , and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) methods and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windchill PLM software
  • Advanced knowledge of design practices, manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements in an Aerospace Discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of various computer systems to produce data, analysis and reports.
