Job Title: Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Charleston, WV

CDI-Infrastructure is looking to add a talented Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Charleston, WV office. You’ll provide business development, geotechnical engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in the public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, government and/or industrial sectors. The project you’ll be involved with are diverse, complex and high profile, which will give you the experience and challenges to build a meaningful and rewarding career.

You’ll be involved in performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. In addition, you’ll review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications, prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, recommend changes, research and resolve design and construction problems, assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. You can also expect to apply your sound engineering principles to effectively communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. You will additionally assist with the business development of work and be responsible for the growth of business relationships, workload and training of less experienced staff.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment and demonstrating safety practices. Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. 

Monitor quality standards and practices. Promote continuous monitoring and improvement on projects.

Senior level engineering professional providing technical direction required for production and completion of both routine and unique or complex projects.

Responsible for conceptualizing the initial design and/or investigative approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a project of moderate scope.

Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinates engineering work involving conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements

Provide review of projects requiring complex and innovative investigation techniques and supervise the analysis and formulation of recommendations in written reports to clients; provides technical review of reports.

Lead technical training and make informed decisions based upon state of the art technology issues.

Provide leadership of marketing, sales and business development to grow the geotechnical group in other sectors and geographical areas.

Supervise less experienced engineers or technical support personnel on projects.

Works with the client to define project scope, scale, schedule and budget in addition to determining how best to phase the project to meet the client’s cash flow needs.

Leads interactions with client, stakeholders and project managers to ensure the projects or aspects of projects are being coordinated to meet the needs of the client and stakeholders.

Design, communicate, and implement a project plan including a detailed project plan and schedule for completing the projects.

Oversees the preparation, design and development of work specifications; develop schedules, cash flow, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors.

Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete.Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.

Job Qualifications & Skills:

Prior experience with management of geotechnical projects

Must be willing to travel on limited basis

Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing

Ability to work with others as well as independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of scope

Experience with common geotechnical software

Strong leadership ability

Be self-motivated, reliable, quality minded and detail oriented

Minimum 12-16 years' experience

Authorized Project Reviewer status

Education/Degree Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field; Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred

Professional Engineer (PE) Registrations
