Engineer-in-Training will participate in delivering a variety of roadway and related projects for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Engineer-in-Training shall possess or be in the process of obtaining an active Engineer-in-Training certification in PA and have 0-2 years of experience in the civil engineering field.   Engineer-in-Training will work under the supervision of a senior highway engineer.

DAILY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design

• Prepare calculations to support roadway designs

• Utilize design software including: MicroStation V8i, Geopak, InRoads, (Open Roads Technology)

• Prepare plans, technical specifications and cost estimates for roadway designs

• Prepare technical reports, sketches and tables

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Roadway design skills necessary to assemble a PS&E (Plans, Specifications and Estimate) package for a highway project, including: horizontal and vertical alignment design, drainage, stormwater and E&S design, guiderail, signing and pavement marking design, and traffic control

• Knowledge of drafting software packages - i.e., MicroStation

• Understanding of the PennDOT “project development process”

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus

 

SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Experience with MicroStation, Geopak, InRoad, Open Roads Technology, and Microsoft Office products are desired.
