The Energy Automation Center (EAC) in the engineering unit specializes in developing solutions for control and protection for electrical substations, distribution networks, micro grids, smart grids and renewable generation.

The EAC is requiring an experienced engineer in electrical protection systems and panel design in the context of protection and control projects

The professional we are looking for has extensive experience in both power systems protection and control, including Low Voltage, Medium Voltage and High Voltage substations, Generation plants, Motor Control Centers. He/She needs to have hands on experience in PLC languages, substation communications, IT and Cybersecurity related to protection devices. Panel design experience is a must

Responsibilities:

• Protection & Control system design, from basic design stage to implementation to commissioning, in compliance with customer specifications and applicable safety and CDI Standards.
• Design of protection schemes for MV and HV application such as feeder, bus bar, transformer, motor, generator, distance, line differential, etc.
• Protection, Control and Measurement panel design for HV and MV applications. Knowledge of ACAD or ACAD electrical
• Preparation of engineering documents such as Protection Conceptual Design, Functional Specifications, Test Plans, Operation and Maintenance manuals, application notes and white papers.
• Supervision of protection and control panel manufacturing.
• Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, commissioning and troubleshooting of protection relays, protection and control panels and substation automation systems.
• Integration of protective and measurement IEDs in complex automation architectures.
• Configuration of communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3.0, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-103.
• Planning and execution of training courses and customer presentations.
• Technical presentations at professional forums such as IEEE, Cigre, Distributech, etc.

Qualifications:

• Professional Electrical Engineer form a recognized University.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of protection systems.
• Experience in implementing (power) protection and control projects for O&G, utilities or electro-intensive industries in USA, Canada or Mexico.
• Ability to work in a highly demanding environment under pressure.
• Proven experience with at least three of the following communication protocols: IEC61850, DNP 3.0, Modbus, IEC61870-5-103.
• Experience with protection & control equipment and solutions preferably from Schneider, Alstom, SEL, GE, ABB and Siemens
• Excellent English language skills both written and spoken. Spanish would be an asset.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time inside and outside the country.
• Ability to supervise and coach less experienced engineers and technicians.
