Description:
Responsibilities include instructing mechanical inspectors, establishing inspection and sampling plans, investigating causes of nonconformance, analyzing quality data, implementing corrective actions, and leading improvement efforts.  Works with manufacturing to continually seek out sources of continual improvement.

The successful candidate will have hands on experience in mechanical inspection, a thorough understanding of drawings, specifications, and standards, familiarity with machined parts and their manufacturing processes, and a background of quality system improvement. Past experience working in a higher-level QMS (ISO 9000, QS 9000, etc.) is highly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for internal machining processes, materials, and products.
• Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation, utilizing knowledge in engineering fields as needed.
• Evaluate and process non-conforming product or processes. 
• Analyzes data to establish trends in order to prioritize root cause and corrective action activities. 
• Investigate and resolve part or process quality issues as part of a hands on operations team.
• Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.  
• Utilizing problem solving techniques (8D or other), helps perform root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns and effectively works with team members of other disciplines to resolve issues with robust solutions.
• Supports the quality inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.  
• Implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material utilizing existing procedures.
• Support preparation of first article inspections, including identification of critical features with engineering, and coordination with inspection to assure proper inspection techniques.
• Review inspection data to assure integrity and provide data analysis, as needed.
• Assist Quality manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system.
• Interface with Engineering and Assembly to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data and appropriate records.
• Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
• Analyze failure, corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

• Degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent experience 5+ years related experience and/or training
• Ability to interpret drawings, including solid working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Detailed knowledge of metrology concepts and basic inspection and statistical techniques
• Detailed knowledge and experience in design for manufacture/ assembly concepts
• Detailed knowledge and experience in root cause analysis
• Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and MRP systems
• Black or Green Belt Six Sigma Certification a plus
