  • Thermal Test Engineer provides technical support to Thermal Engineers with the design validation of cooling solutions for our IT equipment.
  • The Thermal Test Engineer is responsible for preparing test plans, designing thermal test vehicle and test beds, ensuring the quality of the temperature and flow measurements, as well as coordinating thermal test with the lab manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a team of thermal engineers with their thermal tests needs.
  • The candidate will act as an intermediate between the engineers and the lab technicians.

Top 3 daily responsibilities:

  • Help Thermal Engineers with writing thermal test plans, process thermal results and propose design changes if necessary.
  • Put together experimental testbed for system thermal validation tests: design thermal test vehicles (TTVs), dummy boards with dummy components to capture system airflow impedance.
  • Coordinate work with machine shop and thermal lab manager/technicians.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of a BS in Mechanical engineering with focus on heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Minimum of 3+ year experience in thermal management of electronics with hands on lab experience
  • Fundamentals understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics: for example, should understand what heat sink thermal resistance, flow impedance and fan curves are and what parameters affect them.
  • Candidates must have at least 1 year of lab work experience.
  • Thermal lab hands on experience and understanding of techniques to take accurate measurements of: temperature, airflow and power.
  • Understanding and experience using the following measurements/equipment: thermocouples, data acquisition system, airflow chamber, IR camera, multimeter and power supplies.
