Sr. Stress Analysis Engineer - Part-Time

Part-time position: Perform stress analysis to support structural design, systems installations, through detail design.

Execute stress analysis, sizing, and strength assessment of primary and secondary structure and/or sub-system installations. This position will require the ability to perform 3-D modal analysis, static analysis, thermal, cyclic, and transient. Prepare, report, and present technical information in external and internal reviews.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide FEM/FEA engineering support during design, development and production of gas turbine engine components and accessories.
  • Demonstrate capabilities in optimizing analysis outputs for better performance or design cycle
  • Demonstrate meshing techniques to minimize computer run times but provide exceptional quality in results
  • Use in-house 3D software/programs during preliminary and detail analysis design (i.e. ANSYS, UG).
  • Lead engine and component test groups for stress analysis guidance.
  • Provide support to component mechanical design process and component fabrication process.
  • Write/prepare/present design reports, test reports and briefings.
  • Responsible for engineering team projects with regard to scheduling, quality and standards
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with other team members, direct and indirect supervisors to assure quality customer service.     
  • Perform structural/mechanical dynamic analysis, which includes shaft critical speeds and unbalance response, engine modal analysis, transient and steady state thermal analysis, high cycle fatigue analysis on gas turbine engines
  • Support business development groups or teams in preparing proposal, customer meetings, and farming opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interfacing with customers, other team members, & supervisors. Look for solutions when identifying problems. Contribute to a positive work environment. 

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with basic gas turbine engine performance a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform stress analysis in ANSYS or related software packages
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have 7+ years of experience
  • Previous stress analysis experience of aircraft engine structures and rotating parts is a plus
  • Knowledge of classical analysis methods with applications to computer generated analysis and reports
