The ideal candidates will have strong, practical DO-178B verification background in safety-critical real-time embedded software.  They will have a principled knowledge of the DO-178B verification objectives but will be able to apply practical experience to efficiently meet them.  They will be technically proficient with low-level software (e.g. device drivers, board support packages, built-in test), and will be fully fluent in C and assembly.  They will have a solid understanding of the interaction/interface between software and hardware but will not be required to debug the electronics hardware.

Aside from the technical background, they will be conscientious, hard working, and focused.  They will be very strong & efficient communicators both verbally and in writing.  They will raise a flag if the direction to them conflicts with what they understand to be the objective, but will ultimately comply with their full support if that direction is maintained.

The ideal candidate will likely have a sweet spot of about 5-7 years of experience in commercial (i.e. non-military) DO-178B programs.  They will come from a mid-sized company (e.g. Crane Aerospace, Moog) rather than a larger-sized company (e.g. Boeing, Rockwell Collins).
